Dwyer Workforce Development curriculums begin with Dwyer Scholars completing a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job training and certification program. The Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) job training and certification is the second of the two licenses included in this training program. A CNA needs their GNA certification to qualify to work in a long-term care facility (LTC) or nursing home. Our free CNA courses are offered at convenient locations in the communities we serve.
After working in the industry, we will work with Dwyer Scholars to advance in their careers through scholarships to achieve a LPN or RN license, or other healthcare careers.

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNAs) both perform essential nursing assistant duties, such as checking patients’ vitals, feeding and grooming patients, and managing patients’ documentation. Both work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
CNAs can work in many different healthcare facilities or healthcare settings, including home health. However, most states require job seekers to hold a GNA certification if they wish to work specifically in skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes. GNA certification widens a job seeker’s employment opportunities while further enhancing their expertise in the field of caring for older patients.
We are currently piloting our program in Baltimore, Maryland and will be expanding to other states over the next three years. Our CNA and GNA courses are taught at convenient partner locations that are easily accessible by public transportation.
