The Daily Record Selects Dwyer Workforce Development as a 2024 Empowering Women Award Recipient in Inaugural Awards

The Daily Record has named Dwyer Workforce Development (DWD), a national healthcare workforce development nonprofit, as a recipient of The Daily Record’s 2024 Empowering Women Award.  The winners were selected by the publisher and editors of The Daily Record.

The Empowering Women Awards recognize companies and organizations that show a strong commitment to supporting and elevating women in Maryland. Honorees demonstrate a track record of hiring and promoting women; support programs to mentor women in their organizations and address inequalities; show a strong record of women on the company’s board or in C-suite positions; and establish DEI programs and philanthropic efforts to support women.

“Receiving the Empowering Women Award is an incredible honor and a testament to Dwyer Workforce Development’s dedication to elevating and championing women,” said Barb Clapp, CEO of Dwyer Workforce Development. “Women can often feel stifled or like they don’t have a voice and one of my personal missions is to uplift people by recognizing those challenges and determinants and creating solutions to address them. The sky is the limit for everyone on my team and every Dwyer Scholar – and we’re committed to providing the resources, mentorship, support, development opportunities and community to help make their goals a reality. At Dwyer Workforce Development, we’re all about creating real, positive change that uplifts individuals and strengthens entire communities, and this award underscores the impact we’ve had so far.”

“This year’s Empowering Women winners are leading the way as advocates of women’s leadership. They are investing in women to become outstanding stewards in their organizations and in the community,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of BridgeTower Media/The Daily Record. “This year’s honorees are making smart business decisions by championing women, and we at The Daily Record are honored to recognize these organizations.”

DWD has built a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters economic mobility and breaks down barriers for underserved populations, especially women. While DWD provides CNA training and job placement support, its impact extends far beyond this. The majority of program participants, or Dwyer Scholars, are single, female heads of households from Baltimore City, disproportionately impacted by poverty-related issues that can hinder their professional success.

Internally, DWD is equally committed to empowering women, who make up 92.85% of the team. DWD supports these women by providing robust career advancement opportunities, mentorship, and resources to foster personal and professional growth. By creating an environment where women are encouraged and supported, DWD ensures that team members have what they need to thrive both within the organization and in their careers.

Winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the Oct. 23 issue of The Daily Record and will be available online at https://thedailyrecord.com/event/empowering-women/.
