In the tri-county region of Brevard, Flagler and Volusia, we face a healthcare talent shortage that mirrors much of Florida, where the Florida Hospital Association estimates our state will face a deficit of more than 59,000 nurses by 2035.
This gap between healthcare demand and talent is being further widened by a new federal mandate that requires nursing homes to increase their care to 3.48 daily care hours per resident.
While the mandate has good intentions of ensuring high-quality patient care and alleviating the burden on healthcare professionals, it brings new urgency to the need for innovative talent solutions in Florida. One year ago, we became the first entity in Florida to partner with Dwyer Workforce Development to provide CNA training, job placement support, need-based wraparound services, and person-centered case management for job seekers who lack opportunity.
